Japan K. Patel, PhD, is a computational physicist working across nuclear engineering and radiation oncology. He develops faster ways to simulate radiation transport, from solver acceleration techniques to evolutionary algorithms that discover numerical methods automatically. He is the lead developer of MAAS-SFRThelper, a radiotherapy planning toolkit distributed through Varian's Medical Affairs Applied Solutions program. He trained in nuclear engineering at Oregon State University (BS) and the University of New Mexico (MS, PhD), and has held research appointments at the University of Arizona, the University of Michigan and Ohio State University.
